Aspect, Cahir is a service which seeks to support people with Autism and who have an Intellectual Disability to achieve an enhanced quality of life. The service provides bespoke individual Life Skills and Social Skills supports in a person led therapeutic environment.
Once a person is referred to the service, there is initially a transition process prior to admission which is tailored to the person’s needs. Subsequently on admission, because the characteristics of Autism will present in many different ways, unique to each individual, a person-centred and individual approach is adopted so that each person referred to the service will have an individual support plan, communication passport and behaviour support plan. The plans are put together by the person, the significant support people in that person’s life, the Aspect manager and the behavioural therapist. Aspect staff and the people who use the service furthermore have the support of Studio 3, which provides consultation to the organisation where necessary. Studio 3 offer psychology and behaviour supports and base their practice on a low arousal approach. All staff are trained in understanding this approach and the principles in which are applied.
