Scoil Aonghusa is a co-educational special school catering for students with Moderate GLD (General Learning Disability), Severe/profound GLD and students on the autistic spectrum aged 3-18 years. The school has the provision of an ASD pre-school for children aged 3-5 years with a confirmed diagnosis of autism.

The school accepts each child as an individual and adapts the curriculum to meet his/her specific needs. Its mission is “Developing Ability – Diminishing Disability.” Its aim is for students to reach their full potential through participation in school, home and community life.

Curriculum: Together with subjects in the primary school curriculum, practical skills are developed in areas such as Home Economics and Social Training. Students can access amenities in the local community. Leisure pursuits and a healthy lifestyle are promoted, helping lay the foundation for a fulfilled adult life.                                            

The school participates in the Junior Certificate Level 1 and 2.

In the final year of schooling the Occupational Guidance advisor facilitates the student’s transition into adult services.

Students in Scoil Aonghusa participate in many activities e.g. uni-hoc, aquatics, athletics, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, equestrian, motor activities and indoor games. Scoil Aonghusa is actively involved in Special Olympics.

Target Group: Children and young people with Moderate GLD (General Learning Disability), Severe/profound GLD, and children and young people on the autistic spectrum aged 3-18 years.

Referral: Referral by Psychology services (Early Intervention services)
