Rape Crisis Midwest Limerick Centre responds to the needs of survivors of all forms of sexual violence, both recent and past.

The centre offers:

  • Support and information,

  • Accompaniment to a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit, to Court and to An Garda Síochána,

  • One- to- one counselling service for victims of rape / sexual assault and for adult survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse

  • Therapy and therapy for carers and family members and relevant other frontline staff

  • Training on issues of Rape and Sexual Violence.

Eligibility: Survivors of all forms of sexual violence, both recent and past.

The service will only see young people, aged 14 – 16 years, who come through the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) service, which can be accessed by contacting the Gardaí. The adolescents will be provided with information only and must be in the presence of a guardian.

Young people aged 16 – 18 years, can avail of counselling. However, parental or guardian’s consent is required to allow the young person to commence counselling. The guardian will be asked to attend the initial appointment to sign the relevant consent forms. After which the young person would attend the counselling sessions on his or her own. Confidentiality issues will be discussed at the initial appointment.
