The RAY Garda Youth Diversion (GYD) Project serves young people in the Roscrea area who are at risk of getting into trouble or who have been in trouble with the law.

The GYD project model is designed to help young people, aged 12-17 years to develop their sense of community and their social skills through different activities. They are offered opportunities through education, employment training, sport art and music, and this is done through group work and on a one-to-one basis. There is also a new Early Intervention program for 8-11 year olds which currently has two groups running weekly.

Target Age Group: 12 – 17 year olds for the GYD Project, and 8 – 11 year olds for Early Intervention

Referrals: Referrals must be made for 12 -17 year olds. Parental consent must be given for both 8 – 11 years and 12 – 17 years age groups.

Referrals are made either as primary or secondary:

  • Primary referrals are made by members of An Garda Síochána
  • Secondary referrals are made by parents, school staff, family support, social services, or any concerned individual who has a role in the young person’s life.
