DEN Garda Youth Diversion Project (Foróige), Nenagh

DEN Garda Youth Diversion Project is a community based and supported youth development project which seeks to divert young people who are at risk of becoming involved in criminal behaviour, and to lessen the pattern of offending for those who are already involved in crime.

DEN Garda Youth Diversion Project aims to:

  • Involve young people in suitable activities to facilitate personal development and encourage civic responsibility and improve their long-term employability prospects
  • Divert young people from becoming involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour
  • In achieving the above, support and improve local Garda community relations and enhance the quality of life in the area

Target group: DEN GYDP caters for young people aged 12-17 who are involved in antisocial/ offending behaviour or who have been identified as being at risk of becoming involved in crime.

Referral: A primary referral is a young person referred through the Juvenile Liaison Officer who has received a caution for an offence.

A secondary referral is a young person referred through other professionals or their parents where there is a risk that they may become involved in crime, or where the young person requires support in relation to problem or at risk behaviours.
