Barnardos Children’s Bereavement Service

Barnardos delivers a specialist national bereavement service providing therapeutic support to bereaved children, young people and their families.

Specialist bereavement project workers, based in Cork and Dublin, offer a free service based on the individual needs of each child and their family. The service takes into consideration the developmental stage of the child, the child's relationship with the deceased, the nature of the death and particular circumstances of the family. Parents, adult carers, and others can request advice, information by phoning the Helpline, and the service also provides a suite of free booklets as a resource.

The service also offers training around bereavement issues to schools and other agencies working with children on request. It is also available on the Helpline to provide advice and resources to agencies as requested.

Target Group: Children and young people who have been bereaved

How to access: Direct contact by parents and carers; formal referral by professionals (using the service’s referral form, available on request) with consent of parent(s).
